  • Heat and Air Quality Warnings to continue through Wednesday 08.17.21

Heat Warnings are in effect for all of southern, central, and parts of northern Manitoba. Extreme temperatures are expected to continue until Wednesday for the majority of the province with the exception of the southeast corner which will experience extreme heat into Thursday. Heat is expected to dissipate midweek as a cold front and precipitation move across the province.

Special Air Quality Statements are currently in effect for western Manitoba, and much of the southern and central parts of the province. Westward winds are causing smoke from wildfires in B.C. and northern Manitoba to spread across the province. Haze and local smoke are expected to carry into the week, with more smoke expected at the surface later today. Evacuations have occurred, and more may be required, as some areas will be contending with the combined hazards of heat, smoke (reduced air quality), and wildland fire.

  • No Motorized Vehicles on Ring Dyke 08.05.21

It is important to remind everyone that Manitoba Infrastructure prohibits the use of motorized vehicles on ring dykes in Southern Manitoba.  Compliance with this is especially important during the extreme dryness we have had, where ATVs and other recreational vehicles may inadvertently cause a fire to start.  Considering the current water shortage, a fire started on the dyke could have serious consequences for our residents.

The Town has asked the Morris detachment of the RCMP to increase enforcement on individuals who continue to operate vehicles on the dyke during this critical time.  However, we hope that vehicle operators recognize the seriousness of the conditions, and conduct themselves accordingly.
